Mato Industries VR Combat Tournament

Round 1

Match 4

Midori Vs Washina

Setting: Forest

Test: <Redacted>

Professor's Foreword:

Our two newcomers facing off in the first round? A less scientific mind may chalk this up to fate. However, my genius mind has reached a much more scientific explanation: my computer system has gained sentience and chosen to pit these two against one another intentionally. I truly am a genius! Huh? What is that water droplet on the monitor? Oh, well. Regardless of the cause, this should be an interesting match. Though, I should probably tweak their mental states a little or Midori will win in no time due to her being 'O.P. as f**k' as Jake once so eloquently put it. Hmm, I should probably bleep that out. Anyway, let the match begin!

Midori awoke against a tree in an unfamiliar forest. Being unable to recall how she got here, she performed a quick check for wounds and equipment. No wounds. She had her bokken but not her family's sword. But, somehow... that didn't matter. An image quickly flashed through her mind of her giving Jake the sword for safekeeping.

Well, if it is Mato-kun, it should be okay, Midori thought and the sword passed from her mind instantly. For now, she had to figure out where she was and how to get back. Not that the forest was a bad place to be; the sight of the bright sunlight streaming in through the beautiful green leaves above, the sound of woodland critters scurrying about, the feel of the cool spring breeze of the soft green grass beneath her body. The place was very relaxing and Midori felt like she could stay here forever. She shook her head, forcing herself to move on. Still, a little relaxation couldn't hurt, so she removed her sandals and socks and walked barefoot through the woods.

It wasn't long before she came upon another figure, slumped against a tree trunk as she had been.

"Washina-chan?" She hurried over and shook the sleeping girl awake. She hoped she might have some clue as to where they were or why. Unfortunately, she was as clueless as Midori was. Washina was still too tired to move so they opted to simply sit and talk until she recovered.

The two had recently decided to try getting to know one another a little better. They had learned a lot more about each other and become closer as a result.

"I have done some research into Atlantis in my family's main book of monsters."

"You brought that with you to Nitenan?"

"Yes. One can never be too careful when dealing with demons. The book details a number of demons said to have lived in Atlantis before it sank. Mermaids with beautiful bodies and hypnotic voices; hideous monster men who would abduct women from the surface and take them beneath the waves; giant reptilian creatures said to be as tall as a mountain; even a type of demon said to be able to coerce those around them into trusting them complicity, often bringing a sob story about their past to gain sympathy and infiltrate a household. They can also speak to fish apparently."

"I can speak to fish," Washina replied.

"Demon with stupid power!" Midori suddenly stood and drew her bokken. "You are one of those infiltrators sent to destroy the surface world! I should have known from your similarities to the succubus! Prepare to meet... your... new best friend...❤" Midori's expression changed from one of anger to one of pure bliss as her head became wreathed in bishie sparkles.

"What!? You can't just go around calling my people demons... unless you give me a kiss first...❤" Washina now sported the same sparkles as Midori.

"As you wish, Washina-chan," said Midori as she closed in and kissed the Atlantean princess on the lips. Their kiss lasted a few moments as Professor Mato quickly turned the dial back down to a more controllable level. "Mmm, will that be all, Washina-chan?"

"Yes. Kissing you was lovely but I'd like to learn more about you."

"Of course, Washina-chan." The two sat on the grass and Washina offered to give her new best friend a massage, which the samurai girl graciously accepted. "What would you like to know?" Midori asked.

"I'd like to know why you were so quick to say that I'm a demon."

The words 'I'm a demon' resonated deep within Midori. "You are a demon!" She kicked Washina in the face to get her feet free and stood with her bokken once again drawn. "You will pay for deceiving me! You will pay for... dinner when we get back home...❤" Again, her tone was dreamy and accompanied by bishie sparkles.

"That sounds lovely, Midori-sama...❤" Washina seemed to have forgotten about her bloody nose. That or the thought of a date with Midori made it bleed even more.

"No, no, you are my sama, Washina-sama."

"Is that even how that word works?"

"It is unimportant; all that matters is that you are with me..." The two began kissing again, more passionately this time.

Mato realised he'd turned the dial up to double what he had before. He quickly turned it back down and input a command to suppress Midori's hatred of demons. He'd be sure to remove this odd train of logic she had once the match was over.

The two stopped kissing and Washina looked down at the bokken. "Hey, I have an idea," she said playfully. "Why don't we have a little sparring match? My staff against your bokken?"

"That sounds like a wonderful idea, Washina-chan." Agreeing, the two stood and prepared themselves.

The two were soon stood a few metres apart, facing one other with their weapons in hand.

"You ready, Midori?" Washina asked.

"Hai, Washina-chan."

"Theeen... fight!"

The two girls lunged forward and swung their respective weapons. After they bounced off each other, Midori went in for a second strike. Washina had time to deflect Midori's blow downwards, then strike her in the head with the other end of her staff.

Midori, stumbled backwards, feeling at the spot where the hit struck. "Your skills are impressive, Washina-chan."

"Thanks. But I'm sure that was just a warmup for you. Come on, again!"

Midori walked forward this time, leaving her upper body unprotected, yet her eyes taking note of Washina's weapon. Washina struck, swinging at Midori's upper body. Midori ducked under the blow, struck Washina in the side and skipped back.

Washina gasped for air. "Agh, nice strike."

"You are too kind. Again!"

The match continued thusly for some time, both getting in their respective hits and counters, with neither girl gaining the advantage. With the range provided by her staff, Washina could keep Midori too far away to strike. However, being unable to strike, Midori was able to focus on defense.

By now, Mato was beginning to grow weary of this. He wanted to move on to the next match soon but these two weren't very interesting. He turned up their aggression somewhat in the hopes that one would overpower the other or act too aggressively and slip up.

Now with her aggression turned up, Washina decided to shake things up a bit. She jabbed at Midori's face. Being slow enough, Midori caught it in one hand and smirked at Washina smugly.

"Getting cocky, are we?" Washina suddenly pressed forward with a lot more power than before, causing Midori's own hand to hit her square on the nose.

Stepping back to observe her handiwork, she saw the stunned samurai remove her hand from her nose, a little red.

Midori's expression changed and Washina could see the bloodlust in her eyes. "Finally, a real challenge! My turn!" Midori went in for a simply thrust attack. Expecting to counter it easily, Washina began spinning her staff to divert the blow. However, Midori pulled it back at the last second, avoiding the parry, then drove it forward again, striking her opponent's midsection. Washina reeled from the blow and Midori seemed to become even more wild and uncontrollable, even for her.

"Your staff has the advantage of range, and you use it well. However, it does have a flaw." Midori went for an overhead strike, which Washina blocked.

"Ha! Not from where I'm - OOOF!" Midori used one hand to punch her in the stomach, then backed off.

"It requires both hands to use, while I can let go of my weapon and strike you." By now, Washina's anger and aggression were reaching greater levels than ever before. "Prepare yourself, Washina-chan. This next strike will be the finishing blow!"

"Oh, I'm sure it will, sweetie. Let's go!" Both girls charged in and swung their weapons as they ran past each other. Both girls came to a halt mere metres away from each other. What had occurred to neither girl was that, despite what movies and TV would have you believe, one does not simply miss an attack at that range, even if they have already been hit themselves. Both had naturally found their mark and collapsed unconscious from their opponent's strike.

Mato stared at the 'Double K.O.' announcement on the screen before him. "Huh. That was unexpected."

Professor's Notes:

A double K.O.? Perhaps I made them a little too aggressive. Oh, well, I didn't see much variety in data collection potential from either of them anyway. Well, Barb goes through automatically, I guess. I'll have to find something else for her to do instead...
Battle 4 of HypnoBishoujoArena took a lot longer than it should have, I admit, but it was mainly because I don't like either character all that much and found it hard to get the drive to work on it.

Since it was a tie, I struggled to decide how to proceed. I had trouble choosing a winner since neither one seemed like she'd be very good in the next round of the tournament. I considered having Midori be disqualified due to her hatred of demons being too much to suppress through hypnosis for long and it all coming bursting out at once.

I'd like to thank ~gbrn32e for his help in choreographing the fight.

The final poll result was Midori 13 - 13 Washina

As stated by Mato, Barbara will go through automatically to face either Mina or Fawn.
